Johnson Matthey Pharmaceutical Materials is expanding to continue our focus on customer-led development of products. JM Pharmaceutical Materials has commenced construction of a new building, housing increased production capacity for cGMP high value Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) , new laboratories and support facilities.

Acquisitions

Johnson Matthey has recently acquired Pharm-Eco Laboratories, Inc. Based on two sites in the Boston, Massachusetts area and employing around 120 people, Pharm-Eco provides contract research, process development and small scale synthesis services to the pharmaceutical industry. The acquisition presents Johnson Matthey with enhanced opportunities to bring new pharmaceutical manufacturing business to the West Deptford facility.

Johnson Matthey has also recently acquired Macfarlan Smith, Ltd. Based in Edinburgh, Scotland and employing 250 people, Macfarlan Smith provides process development and analytical services, small scale manufacture and bulk production, as well as extractive technologies for the European bulk pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries. Macfarlan Smith also specializes in the isolation and purification of APIs from natural products, a core business for over 200 years. The acquisition presents Johnson Matthey with greater opportunities to expand our pharmaceutical manufacturing services into the European market.
